At PepsiCo, we trained and coached 40 manufacturing lead hands across 3 shifts over 6 months. We helped them reflect on their personal thoughts and emotions so they could better manage their behaviours to get the results they wanted. This took some vulnerability, but it was essential for recognizing opportunities for improvement.
We demonstrated how confidence paired with assertiveness enables better problem-solving and decision-making. With this foundation, they learned to provide feedback across all levels, handle difficult behaviours, and foster an engaged, positive work environment.
By the end of the program, the lead hands felt empowered to share their opinions, perspectives, and ideas for improvement directly with management. The program concluded with team–building events that allowed for constructive dialogue and bonding directly with their supervisors. The transformation was amazing, captured in videos they created to highlight their learning.
Here are a few excerpts from those videos:
“We need to start looking at ourselves first, because it starts with you.”
“We learned a lot of key things like the Stop Light, using active listening and open-ended questions.”
“I learned stress management…empathy…personality types and I am an active listener because I listened to everything in these classes.”
“I learned how you can work in teams, that you cannot always assume what is going on in other people’s worlds because we all have different personalities … to give them feedback…and you will get more productivity.”
“I learned about active listening because everyone wants to be listened to.”
“The concept of brainstorming ideas was very good…We don’t need a lot of resources to get ideas [because] we can use all the people we have and let them sit together. Have them speak up so we can listen to their ideas.”
“We learned that in major times of frustration, just walk away from the situation…and use the Stop Light. Try to think about what the problem is in a different way.”
“Another one is active listening…to what other people are trying to say. Try to get a full picture on how we can solve it. If we make a mistake, you can say sorry and try not to do it again.”
We are honoured to have PepsiCo as a valued client and to have helped their team on their leadership journey.
Way to Go, PepsiCo.
You are Amazing!
